lecturer 1 [ɔw̃] in isolation lecturer 2 [ɔw̃] in isolation lecturer 3 [ɔw̃] in isolation
Based on Maciołek & Tambor (2012)
Orthographic <ą> is realized as an open-mid back rounded nasal diphthong [ɔw̃] in front of non-palatal fricatives and in final position:
[ɔ] Open-mid back rounded oral vowel. During the articulation:
- the tongue is back, somewhat raised, and slightly convex or flat,
- the lower teeth stay away from the upper teeth but a little closer than with [a],
- the lips move slightly forward and get rounded,
- the soft palate lies not very tightly against the back of the pharynx.
[w̃]
Voiced: the vocal folds are in contact, the air coming from the lungs causes them to vibrate.
Non-palatalized: the middle of the tongue is in a neutral position, it does not take part in the articulation.
Labio-velar: the lips move forward and are rounded, at the same time, the back of the tongue gets close to the soft palate.
Nasal approximant: the articulators get closer than with vowels but less than with fricatives. The soft palate moves away from the back of the pharyngeal cavity and enables the free flow of air through the nasal cavity and out.
